WANTAI SARS-COV-2 Rapid Antigen Test is a lateral flow immunofluorescent assay (FIA) intended for qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid antigen in nasopharyngeal (NP) and oropharyngeal (OP) swab specimens collected into viral transport media (VTM). The test helps with early detection of infectious individuals within 15 minutes. Suitable for rapid, on-site testing.

Suitably trained staff can carry out the rapid antigen tests if they are supervised by a health practitioner, either in person or via video. We can provide training for the implementation and interpretation of the rapid antigen test results.

Our rapid antigen test kits are TGA approved. TGA 345191

What is meant by a Health Practitioner?

Health practitioner is defined in Section 3 of the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 (the Act) and is not necessarily the same as a healthcare professional. The conditions of inclusion on rapid antigen tests refer specifically to a health practitioner and not 'healthcare professional'.

Health Practitioner as defined by the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 means: a person who, under a law of a State or internal Territory, is registered or licensed to practice in any of the following health professions:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practice

  • dental (not including the professions of dental therapist, dental hygienist, dental prosthetist or oral health therapist)

  • medical

  • medical radiation practice

  • nursing

  • midwifery

  • occupational therapy

  • optometry

  • pharmacy

  • physiotherapy

  • podiatry

  • psychology

The list above includes medical practitioners, pharmacists, and nurses along with others, but not for example pharmacy assistants, dental assistants, or personal care workers in aged care.

Paramedics are not included in the definition of Health Practitioner in the Act but have been specified as a suitable health practitioner for the purposes of supply and use of rapid antigen tests.

HOW IT WORKS

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to prepare, carry out and read the results of the rapid antigen test.

  1. Open the extraction buffer and pour 12 drops of the fluid into the vial tube. Close the vial tube with the lid that is supplied.

  2. Remove the swab from the packet. Insert the swab into the patient’s nostril until you feel resistance. Roll the swab firmly around the inside of the nostril. Do the same in both nostrils.

  3. Take the vial tube and open the lid. Place the tip of the swab in the tube and swirl it around multiple times. Ensure that the swab is submerged in the fluid.

  4. Take the swab out and dispose it. Place the lid firmly back on the vial tube.

  5. Gently squeeze the extraction tube to place 4 drops of the fluid into the circular area of the test cassette.

  6. Wait 15 minutes for the results. One line at the “C” is negative, and two lines at the “C” and “T” is pos
